If you are reading this blog, you presumably came because you wish to upgrade your MyoChair with a headrest. This blog discusses the requirements and resources needed to add a third-party headrest to MyoChair.
Autonomous is a company that sells ergonomic chairs known as MyoChair. Autonomous is a US-based firm supplying several office-related products with an ergonomic focus while keeping the design appealing yet inexpensive.
There are two variations of MyoChiar: one without a headrest and footrest.

A bit more about MyoChair…
- Beginning in 2021, MyoChair was upgraded and renamed ErgoChair Core. If you bought a recent model of the MyoChair, called ErgoChair Core, without a headrest and now want to add one, you can get in touch with the manufacturer through their website, and they should be able to help you buy an extra part. They were really approachable when I contacted them through the website’s chat assistance. Direct email might be handled differently depending on how busy things are.
- If you haven’t bought a chair yet and are considering doing so, I strongly advise acquiring one with a headrest (and footrest). It is completely worthwhile.
- There could be a variety of discount codes offered on YouTube by YouTubers marketing autonomous chairs. Try looking for the chair you desire, and you could get lucky and find a fantastic offer.
Problem without headrest
MyoChair has a reclining function, but without a headrest, it wasn’t as comfy as it should be. As I indicated before, I bought one without a headrest and footrest and immediately regretted it. My chair was an older model, and Autonomy had informed me that I couldn’t put a headrest on it, thus I was unable in doing so.
So, here is my solution.
What you need
A third-party headrest and good two clamps are all you really need. Chairs can avoid unwanted drilling damage by using clamps.
There may be other headrests available, but at less than $100 CDN from Amazon.ca, this is one of the least expensive headrests I could find. Please be aware that all of the links featured here lead to Amazon.ca because I am now located in Canada.

Any C clamps will work to attach a headrest to the chair. The one I selected had padding, was reasonably priced, and had two clamps.
The headrest is very stable and never wobbles, however, the upper clamp requires a little strain to screw in because the holes on the clamps may be just a little bit smaller than the size of the supplied screws.
How it is mounted
It is self-explanatory. With the provided screws, mount the headrest and clamps to the chair. There are no difficulties, and nothing else needs to be purchased. Use 1/4″ threaded holes rather than the larger 3/8″ holes if you’re using the screws that come with a headrest.

About the position of clamps
By the way, I was unable to use the position below.
I initially placed it in this manner by placing the silver tightener on top. That may work for some but in my situation, I was using it for a week and realized that I was having horrible shoulder discomfort owing to the head posture being too forwards. Then I changed the position of the clamp tightener to be on the bottom as shown above so the headrest would be in a better position for my neck.
About height adjustment
Just a reminder that you will need to tighten the screws as shown in the photo if you are having problems adjusting the headrest’s height since it has dropped to the lowest position. When the headrest was first installed, the screws were loose, and my headrest continued slipping until I detected a gap, at which point I tightened the screw.
Final thought
I am so far quite pleased with my purchase after finding the proper height and angle. It is comfy and quite stable, supporting my head, especially when using it in a reclining posture, and it cannot be any better for the money I spent. Moreover, clamps ensure that the headrest is stable and tight.
If you currently own an older model of MyoChair without a headrest but do not currently have plans to buy a new chair, it is worthwhile to install this headrest to improve your chair and begin using the reclining feature.
