How To Access LinkedIn Learning For Free With Your Local Public Library Card

Tech

Do you have a public library card? Do you wish to enhance your skills or follow a passion for a particular field? Then there is excellent news for you. With many public library cards, we can access LinkedIn Learning (formerly known as Lynda.com) for free!

This blog explains how to verify your access status and how to use your public library card to get free access to Lynda.com. Please be aware that even though the platform’s official name is LinkedIn Learning, I will occasionally refer to it by its former name, Lynda.com, since it is well-known and still goes by that name.

About LinkedIn Learning (Formerly Lynda.com)

Website: https://www.linkedin.com/learning/

There are more than 16,000 courses available through LinkedIn Learning, which offers a wide range of online learning courses in various areas, including IT, business, and creativity. These courses are taught by professionals in those specialties. Typically, e-learning services are charged, but if your company (such as businesses, schools, or public libraries) has a subscription to lynda.com, you will get free access to more than 16,000 courses, and now with a public library card you may have free access too.

Let’s get started with your public library card

I’ll use some examples from the Toronto Public Library, but I believe Lynda.com must be available for free to most public libraries throughout North America. Although I am unsure of additional locations, you may always check if your library has a subscription.

How to get free access to Lynda.com:

  1. The card number that your local public library has provided (Ex. Toronto public library)
  2. 4-digit pin. When you created your library card, this four-digit pin should have been registered or informed. This four-digit pin is tied to the final four digits of the phone number in the case of the Toronto Public Library. Contact your local public library if you can’t remember the pin.

I tried signing in from the official LinkedIn Learning website (linkedin.com/learning) but it says “Your library doesn’t have access”… Why?

It happens to me as well. Well, instead of signing in from the official website, try signing in from your library website. How? Please check below.

How to check if your public library offers an access?

The simplest way is to simply Google Lynda.com + the name of your local library. If your public library has a Lynda.com subscription, they should have a webpage where you may sign in (see below an example of the Toronto public library website). Your access is ensured through your library in this way, and you should have no trouble logging in to Lynda.com.

Example of online access link from Toronto Public Website

You will be able to access Lynda.com after entering your library card number and four-digit pin. Explore the subjects that interest you, then let’s get studying!
